Ruel Biography

Born in the UK and raised in Sydney, Australia, Ruel Vincent van Dijk, known as Ruel, is a pop music singer, known for songs like "Don't Tell Me," "Younger," "As Long as You Care," and "Painkiller." He won the Breakthrough Artist award at the 2018 ARIA Music Awards for his song "Dazed & Confused." Ruel's popularity got a big boost when his song "Don't Tell Me" was featured on Dr. Dre's headphones brand, Beats by Dr. Dre's commercial.

Ruel was born on October 29, 2002, in Isleworth, London, to an English mother, Kate Vincent, and a Dutch-born, New Zealand-raised father, Ralph van Dijk. His father founded the Australian radio agency Eardrum and worked in advertising. In 2006, Ruel's family moved to Sydney, Australia.

In 2015, Ruel's dad sent his singing demo to producer M-Phazes. In 2017, Ruel released "Golden Years" with M-Phazes. He debuted on live radio in June, singing "Weathered." His video went viral. In July, "Don't Tell Me" was released, reaching number 86 on ARIA. Elton John praised it on BBC Radio 1 in September. In November, Ruel joined Khalid's tour and signed with RCA Records.

In 2018, Ruel performed at a festival in Tokyo, Japan, and met fans for the first time. He also performed at a big event in April. In June, he announced his first album and a tour. In October, he had a big show in Sydney and won an award. In 2019, he said he'd be on another artist's album. He released a new song in May. In September, he released another album.

In 2020, Ruel teased new music with an Instagram video captioned "alayc". On September 10, his single "As Long as You Care" premiered on Triple J and the music video was released the same day. He also announced his third EP, "Bright Lights, Red Eyes," which came out later that year.
