Taio Cruz Biography

Jacob Taio Cruz, born as Adetayo Ayowale Onile-Ere, is a British singer, songwriter, and music producer. He was born on April 23, 1980 in Brent, Greater London, England. Cruz grew up in a family of Nigerian and Brazilian immigrants in London. His introduction to the music industry was as a songwriter. He joined RedZone Entertainment’s writing team in Atlanta, Georgia in the US at age 19. RZE was founded by American record producer Tricky Stewart, and has launched the careers of such famous artists as Britney Spears, Usher, or Justin Bieber.

The first of Cruz’s songs that he wrote for someone else and became a hit was "Your Game", a single performed by British pop singer Will Young. This gave Cruz the drive and confidence to set up his own music production company, Rokstarr Music London. He released his debut single “I Just Wanna Know” in November 2006.

As for his first full studio album, Cruz put out “Departure” in March 2008. It was a moderate industry success, peaking at the #17 spot on the UK Album Charts. His next project, however, saw a lot more success.

In October 2009, Taio Cruz released his second album with the title “Rokstarr”. It climbed up to the #8 spot on the famous Billboard 200 list in the US. Since then, he has only put out one more album, “TY.O.” in 2011, but it never came even close in sales to his previous success. His fourth album, “#Black”, was originally announced through his social media in November 2013, but he never followed through with the new Taio Cruz album. In 2012, he perfomed a Taio Cruz concert at the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics.

Taio Cruz’s biggest hits to date are “Dynamite” (2009), “Break Your Heart” (also 2009) featuring American rapper Ludacris, and “Hangover” (2011). He was also featured on the 2011 hit song by David Guetta “Little Bad Girl”, sharing the mic with Ludacris again. Check when the next Taio Cruz concert is playing on the page above.
