Thomas Rhett Biography

Thomas Rhett Atkins Jr., better known by his stage name Thomas Rhett, is an American singer and songwriter. He was born on March 30, 1990 in Valdosta, Georgia. His father, Rhett Atkins, is also a famous country singer. While Rhett was born in Georgia, he was raised in Tennessee. Through his father, he got to meet the biggest stars in country music, such as Tim McGraw and Brooks & Dunn, as a boy. It’s quite evident where his love for country music comes from. In high school, he learnt to play the drums. He went to college as a communications major but dropped out at age 20 to pursue a career in music. To avoid the appearance of nepotism, he didn’t use his family name made famous in the industry by his father. Rather, he just went by his first and middle name, "Thomas Rhett".

Rhett’s first gig as a musician was writing songs for other artists, such as Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line. He put out the first single of his own in 2012, with the title “Something to Do with My Hands”, which managed to break into the top 30 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. His debut album came out in October 2013, with the title “It Goes Like This” and through the independent label Big Machine Records. It became a massive hit, peaking at #2 on Billboard’s Country Music Albums chart, while also reaching the #6 spot on the overall Billboard 200 chart.

Since then, the young country music star has released 5 more studio albums, thus he has 6 in total. The best selling one among them is “Tangled Up” from September 2015, which sold 600,000 copies in the US alone. A new Thomas Rhett album is scheduled to be released sometime in 2023, with the title “Country Again: Side B”. In 2017, he got to go on his first nationwide Thomas Rhett concert tour as a headlining act, the “Home Team Tour”.

Thomas Rhett’s biggest hits to date are “It Goes Like This” (2013, same title as his album), “Get Me Some of That” (also 2013), “Die a Happy Man” (2015), and “Marry Me” (2017). Check where the next Thomas Rhett concert is playing near you on our page above.
