Billy Currington is an American country singer and songwriter. He was born on November 19, 1973 in Savannah, Georgia. While in high school, he auditioned to be a singer at the country music theme park Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee. He didn’t get the gig, however, he didn’t give up either. After graduation, he returned to Nashville to try to make it in the country music business again. He returned to Georgia soon after and sang in the country music bar Cavalier Country Club. Currington also kept recording demo tapes and writing songs. As a result, he was signed by Mercury Records in 2003.
His self-titled debut album, “Billy Currington”, came out in September 2003. It topped the new artist-specific Heatseekers chart on Billboard, while also getting onto the famous overall Billboard 200 list at the #107 spot. The standout tracks on the record were “I Got a Feelin'” (not to be confused with The Black Eyed Peas single from 2009 “I Gotta Feeling”) and “Walk a Little Straighter”. After his debut’s release, he started booking live Billy Currington concert shows at major venues in Nashville.
Since then, the Georgia country star has put out 6 more studio albums, thus he has 7 in total. The best selling one among them is “Doin' Somethin' Right” from October 2005, which sold over 1 million copies in the United States alone. Meanwhile, the latest new Billy Currington album came out in August 2021, with the title “Intuition”.
In 2013, Currington got into major trouble. He was indicted by a grand jury on the charge of elder abuse and making terroristic threats for an incident with a boat captain named Charles Harvey Ferrelle. He eventually pleaded no contest to the elder abuse charge (the other charge was dropped) and received 5 years probation, $1,000 fine, and mandatory anger management counseling.
The biggest hits in the Billy Currington setlist to date are “Must Be Doin' Somethin' Right” (2005), “People Are Crazy” (2008), and “Pretty Good At Drinkin' Beer” (2010). He was also featured on the 2004 hit song by Shania Twain “Party for Two”. Check where the next Billy Currington concert is playing near you on our page above.
