Tom Odell Biography

From Chichester, UK, Thomas Peter Odell, also known by his stage name, Tom Odell, is an indie pop singer and songwriter. The indie star spent part of his childhood in Auckland, New Zealand, and attended Seaford College in West Sussex, as well as school in New Zealand. During his school years, he wrote songs for a band that struggled to keep a lead singer, which led him to start singing his songs to ensure they matched his vision.

At the beginning of his career, Tom was signed to a record label, and discovered by label head Lily Allen, who compared his energy onstage to David Bowie. He released his debut EP, "Songs from Another Love," in 2012 and made his TV debut. In 2013, Tom was nominated for the BBC Sound of 2013 poll, and his single "Another Love" was used in a BBC ad.

In 2014, Tom Odell performed "Alex" during his UK tour and was named Songwriter of the Year. His songs appeared in many famous TV series and movies around the U.S. His cover of The Beatles' "Real Love" for the John Lewis Christmas advert became very popular, reaching No. 7 on the UK charts. In 2015, Avicii premiered their unreleased collaboration "Can't Love You Again."

One year later, Tom began working on his second studio album released the first single, "Wrong Crowd." The indie pop star announced the upcoming album of the same name along with a U.S. and Europe tour. The second single, "Magnetised," followed by the No Bad Days Tour, starting in London, which quickly sold out.

In 2018, Tom released the first single, "If You Wanna Love Somebody," worldwide. The album, Jubilee Road, inspired by his community in east London, was named after a fictional street to protect his neighbors' privacy, who feared it becoming a tourist attraction.

Tom released "Butterflies" featuring Aurora in 2023, followed by a reimagined version of "Streets Of Heaven" which originally was from his 2022 album "Monsters." He then announced his sixth album, "Black Friday," released in 2024.
