Born in Ireland, Andrew John Hozier-Byrne, also known by his stage name, Hozier, is a blues and rock musician. Hozier's debut single "Take Me to Church" was a hit worldwide, reaching number two on Billboard. His first album was certified 6× platinum in Ireland and multi-platinum elsewhere. The "Nina Cried Power" EP reached number one on the Billboard Adult Alternative Songs chart.
Hozier got inspired by music and art at an early age, his father worked as a banker and was also a jazz and blues drummer, while his mother, was an artist.
When Hozier was just a child, his father had addiction issues and financial struggles for the family. Hozier started writing songs at 15, taught himself guitar, and sang in his school choir.
In 2018, Hozier released the EP "Nina Cried Power," featuring Mavis Staples. After that, he released "Movement" in 2019. The album, exploring themes of romance, and redemption, received positive reviews everywhere in the world.
5 years later, in 2023, Hozier released "Unreal Unearth," talking about themes like the Irish language and includes lyrics in Irish supported by translations from experts. Despite its popularity, the album did not receive any Grammy nominations in 2023.
A very curious fact is that the blues musician wrote the hit "Take Me to Church" in 2013 while playing open mic nights in Dublin, leading to his signing with a major record label. He released his debut EP, "Take Me to Church", in mi-2013. The title track's music video, addressing homophobia, went viral.
