Tove Lo Biography
Picture a three-year-old Swedish girl falling in love with a lynx at the zoo - that's how Ebba Nilsson became Tove Lo. Growing up near Stockholm, she wasn't your typical rich kid from the suburbs. While others played it safe, she was scribbling songs and forming bands by age 10, wrestling with personal demons like bulimia, and dreaming of something bigger. Nowadays, Tove Lo is one of the top trending pop artists with over 10 million monthly listeners on digital platforms like Spotify, and songs with over a billion streams.
After cutting her teeth in a rock band called Tremblebee (which sounds exactly as indie as you'd expect), she switched gears to pop music in 2009. But this wasn't your sugar-coated pop - Tove Lo brought something darker, more honest to the table. While writing hits for other artists, she was cooking up her own sound, and when "Habits (Stay High)" dropped, it hit like a sledgehammer, climbing to number three in the US. After her early success, Tove Lo released "Lady Wood" in 2016, which hit number one in Sweden and included the hit "Cool Girl." She promoted it with two short films and toured with Maroon 5.
In 2017, she put out "Blue Lips" as a sequel to "Lady Wood" and opened shows for Coldplay. Her fourth album "Sunshine Kitty" came out in 2019 and had songs with other artists like Kylie Minogue and Alma. She kept working during 2020, releasing new songs and even doing a special performance in the video game Animal Crossing. 2021 was also a busy year for the singer, she appeared in the movie "The Emigrants" and worked with EDM DJ and producer Martin Garrix on the song "Pressure."
Her debut album "Queen of the Clouds" successfully paved the way for her later projects. The young pop star then worked with Ellie Goulding on the song "Love Me Like You Do," and quickly dropped more albums and even hopped on stage with the pop giant Coldplay. By 2022, Tove Lo dropped "Dirt Femme," tackling everything from body image to femininity.
