Cameron Jibril Thomaz, better known by his stage name Wiz Khalifa, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He was born on September 8, 1987 in Minot, North Dakota. Both of Khalifa’s parents served in the military, which caused him to move a lot around the world as a child. He started writing his own songs before even he was a teenager.

His stage name comes from the Arabic word “khalifa”, meaning successor, while “Wiz” is short for wisdom. Khalifa had a grandfather who was Muslim. He kept writing rap songs throughout his teenage years. One studio manager in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was so impressed with his skill that he let him record there for free.

At age 16, he was discovered by Rostrum Records president Benjy Grinberg. He heard the young rapper on a mixtape produced by various local artists from Pittsburgh. In September 2006, they released his debut studio album “Show and Prove”. It never really took off, having only sold around 10,000 copies. However, it was well received by the hip hop community, which allowed Khalifa to continue his journey as a rapper.

His second album, “Deal or No Deal”, performed significantly better, peaking at the #10 spot on Billboard’s Rap Albums list. However, his real big break came when in a bold move, Khalifa made his new mixtape “Kush and Orange Juice” available as a free download for everyone on the internet. This way, his songs gathered a whole new, wide online audience. Its success allowed him to go on his first nationwide Wiz Khalifa concert tour in 2010, called "Waken Baken Tour".

This led to his third album, “Rolling Papers” released in March 2011, becoming an absolute hit. It peaked at the #2 spot on the Billboard 200 list. Since then, Khalifa has released 4 more studio albums, thus he has 6 in total. The best selling among them remains 2011’s “Rolling Paper”. Meanwhile, the latest new Wiz Khalifa album is from July 2022, with the title “Multiverse”.

Wiz Khalifa’s biggest hits to date are “Black and Yellow” (2011), “We Dem Boyz” (2014), and “See You Again” (2015) featuring Charlie Puth, which was featured on the soundtrack of the blockbuster movie "Fast & Furious 7".
