Zucchero Biography

From Konstanz, Germany, Zucchero is a blues and rock legend famous not only in Europe but worldwide. Often called the "father of Italian blues," Zucchero has sold over 60 million records worldwide. His most successful song is "Diamante." Zucchero has won numerous awards, including nine Wind Music Awards and two World Music Awards, and has collaborated with many famous artists like Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Sting.

Zucchero started his love for music when he sang in the church choir and played the organ. His love for soul and blues music was sparked at age 12 or 13 by an African-American friend who introduced him to artists like Otis Redding. Zucchero began playing guitar and writing songs in his early teens, later learning the tenor saxophone. He completed his technical high school before moving to Carrara.

Fornaciari resides in Pontremoli, Tuscany, enjoying the countryside lifestyle. He has two daughters, Alice and Irene (also a singer-songwriter), from his first marriage with Angela Figliè, and a son named Adelmo Blue, born in 1998, with his current partner Francesca Mozer. In 2012, he adopted two children from Kenya from a distance.

In 1979, he wrote hits for other artists and found initial success with the band Taxi, winning the Castrocaro Music Festival in 1981. Despite a slow start to his career, he gained traction with the 1985 album "Zucchero & The Randy Jackson Band."

He followed up with "Oro Incenso & Birra" in 1989, which included collaborations with Ennio Morricone and Eric Clapton and hits like "Diamante." His success in Italy led him to target international markets, releasing "Zucchero Sings His Hits in English" in 1990, featuring the global hit "Senza una donna" with Paul Young.

Zucchero's 1995 album "Spirito DiVino" was noted for its New Orleans blues influence, included contributions from Jeff Beck and Sheila E. A successful tour followed, attracting 1.4 million attendees. In 1996, the compilation "The Best of Zucchero Sugar Fornaciari's Greatest Hits" sold over 3 million copies in Europe. The 1998 album "Bluesugar" shifted to a British rock style, featuring Steve Winwood and lyrics by Bono. Zucchero's world tour included stops in Australia, and he performed at the NetAid event in 1999.

Zucchero collaborated with Alejandro Sanz on the Italian version of "Un Zombie a la intemperie" in 2015 and performed at U2's concert in Turin, singing "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". He also appeared at the Voices for Refugees concert in Vienna, performing "Love Is All Around" and covers like "Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime" and "Va pensiero" with a children's choir.

In 2016, his album "Black Cat" marked a return to his soul and blues roots, featuring the song "Streets of Surrender (S.O.S)" with lyrics by Bono. Celebrating 35 years in music, he released "Wanted" in 2017 and won his first "Premio Tenco." His 2019 album "D.O.C." was followed by an acoustic version in 2021, and in late 2021 he released his first cover album, "Discover", followed by the World Wild Tour in 2022.
