Sting Biography

Born and raised in Wallsend, UK, Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, also known as, Sting, is a world-class musician famous within the rock, jazz, and reggae communities. Gordon developed a very unique style through his voice and skills with instruments, which made him gain a very huge fan base not only in the UK but all around the world. Before his solo career, from the 70s till the 80s Gordon was the lead singer for the new wave band The Police.

Gordon's passion for music started at an early age, he used to go to nightclubs which made him fall in love with the music industry. Gordon played jazz during his free time from college and teaching. He performed in the evenings, on weekends, and during breaks.

After the split of The Police, Gordon's first solo album, "The Dream of the Blue Turtles," came out. It had jazz musicians like Kenny Kirkland, Omar Hakim, and Branford Marsalis. The album had hit songs such as "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free" and "Russians."

Gordon has created some unforgettable songs like "Englishman in New York," "Fields of Gold," and "Shape of My Heart," which are cherished by people all around the world. Albums like "Ten Summoner's Tales," "Brand New Day," and "The Last Ship" have been huge hits also.

Sting, in his solo career and with the Police, has won 17 Grammy Awards. His song "Every Breath You Take" won a big prize called Song of the Year. He also got three Brit Awards, like Best British Male Artist, and received a special award for his contribution in 2002. But his success didn't stop there, he also got himself a Golden Globe and an Emmy too, and was also nominated four times for an important movie award called the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

In 2007, Gordon got back together with The Police to kick off the 2007 Grammy Awards. They sang their famous song "Roxanne" and also revealed plans for a reunion tour.

In 2021, Gordon released an album called "Duets." It features 17 songs where he collaborated with some heavy-weight artists like Eric Clapton, and Sam Moore.

Now, if you're wondering what's his net worth after all this success during his career, in 2022 Universal Music Group bought not only his collection of solo music but also his work with The Police. Even though the purchase price was not informed, Forbes named him the highest-paid solo musician of 2022, estimating he earned around $210 million. From that, we can imagine how rich Gordon is.
