Bryan Adams Biography
From Kingston, Canada, Bryan Adams is a very famous singer and an icon in the rock genre, who sold over 75 million records all over the world. Bryan's debut album was released in the early 80s and later, his 84 album, "Reckless" made history as Canada's first diamond-certified album. In 96, Bryan's "18 til I Die" album reached the top five in many countries but only hit number 31 in the U.S.
He collaborated with Barbra Streisand on "I Finally Found Someone" released in 96, his last U.S. top ten hit, and Melanie C on "When You're Gone" of 98, a top five hit internationally. During the '90s, Bryan topped the European Radio Airplay charts with six number-one songs for a total of 32 weeks, and the Eurochart Hot 100 with three number-one hits totaling 29 weeks, the most by any artist.
Bryan was actually born in England and emigrated to Canada in the 50s with his parents. Due to his dad being in the British army and going on diplomatic missions, Bryan grew up in different places and experienced different backgrounds and cultures. Bryan went to schools in Lisbon, Vienna, and Jaffa, before settling in Ottawa.
He bought his first electric guitar at age 10 and left school at 15 to join the band Sweeney Todd, re-recording their hit single "Roxy Roller." By 18, he met songwriter Jim Vallance, beginning a fruitful collaboration that included writing for artists like KISS, Tina Turner, and Rod Stewart.
In late 2000, Bryan performed "Sad Songs (Say So Much)" with Elton John at Madison Square Garden, in NYC. Bryan also joined The Who's benefit concert at Royal Albert Hall, singing "Behind Blue Eyes" and "See Me, Feel Me" with Eddie Vedder, released as Live at the Royal Albert Hall. Bryan also co-headlined with Def Leppard in 2005 and performed at Live 8 in Barrie. He was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2006 and co-wrote songs for Aretha Franklin and the Disney film Bridge to Terabithia in 2006 and 2007, respectively.
In 2010, Bryan Adams released "One World, One Flame" and performed "Bang the Drum" with Nelly Furtado at the 2010 Winter Olympics opening ceremony.
Since 1999, he has released eight albums, three reaching number one in Canada and the last three achieving top three status in the UK, Germany, and across Europe.
Bryan is also a big award winner: He has received 20 Juno Awards, a Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media, and 16 Grammy nominations. Also with the blockbuster success of "Reckless" in the 80s, certified five times multi-platinum and hailed as "Album of the Year," Bryan solidified his position as a rock icon.
