Phil Collins Concerts Setlist

Philip David Charles Collins is an English drummer, singer, songwriter, music producer, and actor. He was born on January 30, 1951 in London, United Kingdom. Collins grew up in London, with an insurance agent father and a mother who was a booking agent at an independent performing arts school. The young Phil got a toy drum set when he was five, which made him fall in love with the instrument for life. He later learnt to play the actual drums, and the piano as well. Also, he started performing as a child actor early on. At age 13, he landed a supporting role in the West End production of the musical “Oliver!”.

In 1969, at age 18, he and three other musicians formed a rock band “Hickory”, which later got renamed as “Flaming Youth”. Collins played the drums in this group, which started out as the backing band for singer John Walker’s tours. However, alas, Flaming Youth broke up within a year. Collins then played the drums on a song by former Beatle George Harrison called “Art of Dying”. Unfortunately, Collins’ performance was cut from the final, released version. However, the same year, he landed the gig that made his career take off for good: in 1970, he joined the then-struggling band “Genesis” as their new drummer.

With Collin’s arrival, Genesis’ fortune changed. Their fourth studio album, “Foxtrot”, finally became a hit, peaking at #12 on the OCC chart in the UK, while also charting in France and Germany. In 1975, after Peter Gabriel’s departure, Collins also became the band’s new lead singer. He stayed with them until 1996, having been featured on 12 out of the total 15 released Genesis albums.

In the meantime, Collins also kicked off his career as a solo musician. The first hit of his own was “In the Air Tonight” from 1981. He put out his debut solo album in February of the same year, with the title “Face Value”. It ended up topping the charts in his home country of the UK, while also reaching #7 on the famous Billboard 200 chart over in the US. Ultimately, Collins wanting to focus on his solo career is what made him leave Genesis in 1996. He put out 8 full studio records as a lone musician. The latest new Phil Collins album came out in September 2010, with the title “Going Back”.

The biggest hits in the Phil Collins setlist to date are the aforementioned “In the Air Tonight” (1981), ”Easy Lover” (1984) featuring Philip Bailey, “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)” (also 1984), and “Another Day in Paradise” (1989). In 2000, he won the Best Original Song award at the Academy Awards for his song “You’ll Be in My Heart”, which was featured in the animated Disney movie “Tarzan”.
