Arch Enemy Biography

Hailing from Halmstad, Sweden, Arch Enemy is a melodic death metal band formed in 1995. The band members come from other bands like Carcass, Armageddon, and Mercyful Fate. Arch Enemy was fronted by Johan Liiva and then replaced by Angela Gossow in 2000. By 2014, Angela became the band's manager, and Alissa White-Gluz took over the vocals.

Arch Enemy's debut album, "Black Earth," was released in 96. Quickly after the release, the death metal band signed with a record label and released "Stigmata " less than two years later. The album led to the expansion of their audience, with Arch Enemy gaining fans from Europe and from the Americas. With Sharlee D'Angelo becoming the band's bassist, and Daniel Erlandsson returning as drummer, they released "Burning Bridges" in 99.

With Angela Gossow assuming the vocals in 2000, her first album with the band was "Wages of Sin," which came out one year after she arrived at the band. That same year, the band joined Japan's Beast Feast with Slayer and Motörhead. In 2003, Arch Enemy released "Anthems of Rebellion." By 2007, the band released "Rise of the Tyrant," which became their highest-charting album, with a rawer sound and more emotion.

That same year, with the band's popularity growing every single year, they played at the Bloodstock Open Air Festival and joined the Black Crusade tour with bands like Machine Head and Trivium. With a huge public in Japan, in 2008, they returned to the country and filmed a live show in Tokyo for the DVD "Tyrants of the Rising Sun." By 2009, "The Root of All Evil," a compilation of re-recorded songs from before Angela Gossow joined was released.

In 2014, Angela announced that she was leaving Arch Enemy and that Alissa White-Gluz from Canada would be replacing her. The main reason why Angela Gossow left the band was because she decided to focus on her family and other interests, but Angela stood as the band's business manager.

In 2017, Arch Enemy released their tenth album, named "Will to Power," once again the band toured with Trivium. By 2022, Arch Enemy's eleventh album, "Deceivers," came out. In 2024, they announced their twelfth album, "Blood Dynasty," set for release in 2025.
