Camila Cabello is a Cuban-American singer and songwriter. She was born on March 3, 1997, in Havana, Cuba. Cabello was just six years old when she moved to Miami, Florida in the US - initially, with her mother alone, then her father reunited with the family 18 months later.

In 2012, she entered season 2 of the talent-reality show The X Factor on FOX. While she didn’t make it past the boot camp part of the competition as a solo artist, she did eventually make it into the live shows part in a newly formed group. The judges grouped Cabello with 4 other young, female contestants Ally Brooke, Normani, Lauren Jauregui, and Dinah Jane to create the new girl group with the name “Fifth Harmony”. They ended up finishing in third place.

Their X Factor performance kickstarted the teenage girls’ career in the American mainstream music industry (Cabello was 15 at the time). In January 2013, only a month after the talent show’s end, they were signed by judge Simon Cowell’s music label Syco Music and fellow judge L.A. Ried’s Epic Records in a joint deal. In July of that year, they released their debut single “Miss Movin’ On”.

The debut song was a moderate success, peaking at the #76 spot on the famous Billboard Hot 100 chart. Their first EP, “Better Together” which came out in October 2013, performed much better, reaching the #6 spot on the same list.

However, Cabello’s and her group’s big break came in 2015. That is when Fifth Harmony’s first studio album “Reflection” came out, which featured the hit single “Worth It”. The next year, in May 2016, they released their second album with the title “7/27”, referring to the date when Fifth Harmony was formed, July 27, 2012. This album featured a track that is the band’s biggest hit to date, “Work From Home”.

And it is likely to remain the biggest hit by Fifth Harmony indefinitely. That is because the group’s breakout performer, Camila Cabello, announced her departure from the group in December 2016. Tabloid rumors had been circulating about tension within the girl band, caused by Cabello’s standout success.

Cabello’s solo career has also been massively successful so far. Her debut solo album, the self-titled “Camila”, was released in January 2018. The single “Havana” reached the number 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 list. The song “Senorita”, featured on her 2018 album “Romance”, also topped the charts in the US. The new Camila Cabello album came out in April 2022, with the title "Familia". Cabello even made her debut as an actress, starring in the 2021 movie musical adaptation of the classic tale “Cinderella”.
