Taylor Swift Biography

Taylor Alison Swift is an American singer and songwriter. She was born on December 13, 1989 in West Reading, Pennsylvania. Swift was born into a rather wealthy family. She got her name after American singer-songwriter James Taylor. The young Taylor’s first introduction to music was doing musical theater at age 9. As a teenager, she fell in love with country music, inspired by artists like Shania Twain and Faith Hill. So, she left from up North and traveled to the largest country music hub: Nashville, Tennessee. In the meantime, she also learnt to play the guitar and got some modeling gigs as well.

In Nashville, she got to work with well-respected country music veterans, such as Troy Verges, Brett Beavers, and the Warren brothers. Soon enough, Swift became the youngest artist ever to sign with Sony Music Publishing at age 14. However, she got snatched away by a newly founded independent record label, Big Machine Records, within a year. They released her self-titled debut album, “Taylor Swift”, in October 2006.

The album became a massive hit, topping the charts in the country music category, and peaking at the #5 spot on the famous Billboard 200 list in the overall category. Swift quickly became one of the biggest country stars in the US. In 2009, she got to go on her first nationwide Taylor Swift concert tour called the "Fearless Tour".

With the release of her 5th studio album, “1989” in October 2014, however, she made a bold career choice. Swift decided she would ditch for good the genre that originally made her famous, country, and release pop or pop-rock albums instead. This worked out for her ultimately and her star continued to shine in a different genre.

Overall, Swift has released 9 studio albums in total during her career. The best selling one among them is her second one, “Fearless” from November 2008, which sold 12 million copies worldwide. Her best selling pop album is the aforementioned “1989" with over 10 million in sales. Meanwhile, the latest new Taylor Swift album is titled “Evermore” and came out in December 2020.

Taylor Swift’s biggest hits to date are “You Belong with Me” (2008), “Blank Space” (2014), “Shake It Off” (2014), and “Bad Blood” (also 2014) featuring rapper Kendrick Lamar. Check where the nearest Taylor Swift concert is playing on our page above.
