Born in New Hartford, USA, Joseph Leonard Bonamassa, also known by his stage name, Joe Bonamassa, is a blues rock musician. Renowned for his collaborations with blues and rock icons, has garnered three Grammy nominations. In 2020, he launched Keeping the Blues Alive Records, an indie label championing blues musicians like Dion DiMucci, Joanne Shaw Taylor, and others. Joe actively produces and collaborates on projects under the label's banner.
Joe at an early age, mentored by Danny Gatton, he formed his band, Smokin' Joe Bonamassa, at twelve, performing in western New York and Pennsylvania on weekends. He played a crimson 1972 Fender Stratocaster named "Rosie". By eighteen, Bonamassa had already opened for B.B. King at about twenty shows and played in the band Bloodline with the sons of Miles Davis, Robby Krieger, and Berry Oakley, gaining recognition for his guitar skills.
Joe's debut album, "A New Day Yesterday," had original tracks with covers from Rory Gallagher and Jethro Tull, peaking at No. 9 on the Billboard Blues chart. Over his career, three of his albums topped the Blues charts, with all five solo releases entering the Top 10.
The musician's album "Different Shades of Blue" marked his return to all-original songs, crafted with songwriters like Jonathan Cain and James House in Nashville. Recording took place at a studio in Las Vegas, aiming for serious blues rock rather than radio-friendly hits. The album reached No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and topped both the blues and indie charts.
Joe discovered Beth Hart's music through television performances and was impressed after seeing her live in Lucerne, Switzerland. During the recording of his album "Dust Bowl", inspired by The Rolling Stones' "Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out!", he decided to collaborate with a female vocalist and approached Hart in Dublin. Initially thinking she would provide backup vocals, Hart was surprised and thrilled when Bonamassa asked her to sing lead vocals instead.
