Olivia Rodrigo Biography
Olivia Rodrigo is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She was born on February 20, 2003 in Murrieta, California. Rodrigo started taking vocal lessons as early as kindergarten age, and learnt to play the piano shortly after. At age six, she also picked up acting classes. Her fascination with the performing arts was present at such a young age despite the fact that no-one in her family was in show business.
By age 12, she was performing in school plays on a regular basis and learnt the guitar as well. The biggest influence on her musical taste in her early years was Taylor Swift. However, her first steps into the entertainment industry were taken as an actress, not a musician. She got hired to appear in a commercial for the clothing and accessories retail company Old Navy in 2015. The same year, she got a role in a direct-to-video movie. Then, in 2016, her big break came: at age 13, she got cast as Paige Olvera, the star of the Disney Channel series "Bizaardvark".
Her character was a guitar player. With her next role in the Disney+ series version of High School Musical, she got even closer to the music industry in 2019. The very next year, in 2020, she was signed by the music labels Interscope Records and Geffen Records. Her first single was released in January 2021, with the title “Drivers License”. It was a massive hit. It reached the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The song even broke a Spotify record by receiving the most daily streams by any non-holiday song with 17 million streams on a single day.
Rodrigo’s debut album soon followed in May 2021. It was titled “Sour”, and had such hit singles on it as the aforementioned "Drivers License"; as well as “Deja Vu”, “Good 4 U”, and “Brutal”. She also went on the first Olivia Rodrigo concert tour to promote her album. She is considered by many to be the greatest new talent on the American music scene. She was already nominated for the Best New Artist award at the Grammys, which she ended up winning as expected. The new Olivia Rodrigo album is reportedly already in the works.
