Ed Sheeran Biography

Ed Sheeran is a British singer and songwriter. He was born on February 17, 1991 in Halifax, England. Sheeran was born into a rather wealthy family in Northern England. He started singing in the church choir at age four and learnt to play the guitar at age eleven. His musical talent was discovered very early. He got accepted to the National Youth Theatre in London as a teenager. At age 16, he was cast in a production of a Frankenstein musical by the Youth Music Theatre UK. Also, his brother works in the music industry as well - he is a composer.

After graduating high school, Sheeran spent his time releasing self-produced EP’s and albums, performing in small venues, and working on songs for other artists (the best known of these would be CeeLo Green’s 2010 hit “Fuck You”). He also started posting his music to YouTube, where he started growing an online following.

Inevitably, Sheeran was picked up by major two music labels, Asylum Records and Atlantic Records. They released his debut single “The A Team”, in June 2011; and his debut studio album, “+” (pronounced “plus”) in September 2011. The album became a massive hit in the UK, peaking at the #3 spot on the OCC charts, and also got on the famous Billboard 200 list in the US. In the meantime, Sheeran was also working on the boyband One Direction’s debut album as a songwriter, which too became an international hit.

The redhead popstar is keeping to his habit of naming his albums with mathematical symbols. Thus, his second studio project was titled “×” (pronounced “multiply”, released in June 2014); his third album was “÷” (“divide”, March 2017); and his fourth and latest album is titled “=” (“equals”, October 2021).

Sheeran’s biggest hits to date are "Thinking Out Loud" (2014), "Photograph" (2015), "Shape of You" (2017), and "Perfect" (also 2017). He had the honor of performing at the concert honoring the 50th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession at Buckingham Palace in February 2012. He was also featured in an episode of the popular HBO series Game of Thrones in 2017.
