Bastille is an indie pop band that started as a solo project by Dan Smith before expanding to include Kyle Simmons, Will Farquarson, and Chris "Woody" Wood. Now, the band is considered to be one of the most influential pop bands and produced hit singles like "Pompeii." Throughout their very successful career, the band won many awards and prizes, including the British Breakthrough Act at the 2014 Brit Awards.
The group began in 2010, with their first work, a limited edition 7" single, they got noticed by Kerrang! Radio which led them to gain a lot of popularity. Their first EP came out in 2011, and it was a self-release, "Laura Palmer," once again made the band gain popularity and they started to perform at major music festivals and events in the UK, including Reading Festival and Glastonbury.
By 2012, their first single, "Overjoyed" entered the UK charts and it was a major hit, but by 2013, the band produced "Pompeii" which made them receive global recognition. Quickly after that, Bastille supported Muse on tour and headlined Blissfields festival, and in 2014, they performed at Coachella. That same year, Bastille worked with some other artists like Lizzo and Haim.
In 2016, "Wild World," the band's second album, came out and made the band win Best Album at the 2017 NME Awards. In 2019, their third album, named "Doom Days" was released and once again received widespread recognition from the pop music community. Reaching mainstream, the band collaborated with heavy-weight artists like Craig David and Marshmello. Their song "Happier" with the EDM DJ and producer Marshmello was a major hit, and as of 2024, the song has over 2 billion streams on Spotify.
In 2024, Bastille announced a four-part project called "&," turning acoustic tracks based on personal stories. Reaching major success all over the globe, Bastille has over 22 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
